Strangers throw baby shower for couple flying home with adopted daughter
Dustin and Caren Moore became first-time parents last week.
But the couple didn’t get to have a baby shower before their daughter arrived because they became parents through adoption.
As they flew home to California with their newborn baby, a stranger and a flight attendant asked about their baby and they shared their adoption story.
Minutes later, the entire plane joined in on an impromptu baby shower for the new family.
Writing on Twitter, Dustin explained that the couple had been trying for a baby for nine years and they were delighted to finally bring their baby home.
During the flight, their daughter needed her nappy changed and a flight attendant named Jenny helped them find some space at the back of the plane.
Dustin said: ‘After a change, Jenny and another passenger complimented my beautiful daughter and politely asked what had prompted a flight with such a young infant. I gave them the shortened adoption story, to which they hastily offered congratulations, and shared a few more kind remarks.
‘About 10 minutes later, another attendant (named Bobby) greeted us w/ a warm smile, and inquired about our daughter. We repeated the story w/ a few details, and he congratulated us before walking away. My wife and I exchanged curious looks, but thought nothing more about it.
‘Then, we heard the intercom. The attendant Bobby came on and announced a special guest on the flight. Our daughter. “She’s just been adopted by her parents Caren and Dustin, and is making her way home.” The entire cabin erupted in cheers and applause.’
The crew then passed out pens and napkins to everyone and asked anyone with advice or encouragement for new parents to write it down.
Dustin added: ‘We sat in speechless gratitude, as people kept peeking over their chairs to congratulate us.
‘The crew gathered the napkins, then read a few of their favourites over the intercom.’
Some of their favourites included:
‘Rub each other’s feet, and rub the baby’s feet.’
‘Make time for date night.’
‘Always tell her you love her.’
‘Enjoy every minute. It goes by sooo very fast.’
‘Drink lots of wine!’
Jenny and husband Bobby then approached the couple with the napkins and a set of pilot wings for their daughter.
Dustin added: ‘We learned they were married, and that someone had done a similar act for them on their honeymoon flight.
‘When I had spoken w/ Jenny, she thought it was a perfect opportunity to pay forward the kind act they had been shown on their honeymoon. Even as we disembarked, people kept approaching us and wishing us well, and complimenting our beautiful daughter. Our hearts were full.’
Dustin and Caren were completely overwhelmed with how kind the strangers were to them.
They’ve now taken the napkins and placed them in a book to remember the amazing flight home.
‘The outpouring of love from that flight, brought on by the actions of two thoughtfully observant flight attendants… it exceeds my ability to describe what it meant to us.
‘How much those wings and written notes uplifted two new parents determined to love their new daughter.,’ Dustin added.
The thread about the experience quickly went viral with over 16,000 likes and 3,700 retweets.
After seeing the response, Dustin said: ‘Thank you all for the love you’ve shown us. We only wish we could sit down with each of you, tell you the rest of the story, and hear yours. Maybe another time.’
